Linking Words : Contrasting

One of the function using linking words is to contrasting ideas between yours and the other party. But and However Their main function is to say the opposite opinion, but there slightly different usage between them. But : can only be used in the middle of the sentence. However : can be used in the beginning of the sentence I wish you were here, but you are not. I wish you were here. However, you are not. See? :) On the other hand Is used to contrast the ideas. It also can be used in the midlle of the sentence. I like fish as main course, on the other hand my father prefers beef While and Whereas Both are usually used between two complete phrases/clauses I have to go to school every morning, while my sister goes to the office. I know that having a car is not the only parameter of rich, whereas my brother think it is a must have. Even if both of them are used to contrast the idea, whereas is stronger than while. What is Gerund? G-E-R-U-N-D

You might have been using Gerund a lot in your daily activities. Basicaly Gerund is a noun (not a verb), but it is formed fom a verb. Gerund is : Verb + ing --> you might think it is the same as the present continuous form. Yes, precisely they are the same. BUT, they have different usage. Check this out : 1. It is a swimming pool. --> Gerund as compound noun (swimming pool) 2. Thinking of you is my hobby --> Gerund as a subject of a sentence 3. She is really good at speaking English --> Gerund also has a place after preposition 4. I look forward hearing from you soon. --> This is a special case. Because i look forward hearing from is a phrasal verb which contain gerund hearing in it. 5. Mom and Shana are having breakfast in the alley --> Gerund acts as complement to "to be" --> This looks exactly the same as the present continous tense. See? So, there are many ways of using gerund.

Hello Guys, Today is 4 September 2017. It means, Me : "It's gonna be Autumn soon" Ashley : She said it was going to be Autumn soon Note the difference in those sentences? We change the tense backward i n indirect speech, or also called, the reported speech The reported speech is used to tell what other people said directly to us. In the sentences above, the direct speech (with quotation) is in future tense (be going to). When we use the indirect speech, the tenses change into past tense (was/were going to) Now, this what i learned from LearnEnglish from British Council.
